US retail giant the Simon Property Group said on Wednesday it would close all its 194 US retail properties immediately to combat the Covid-19 virus, through to Sunday 29 March.
Chair, chief executive & president David Simon said the company made the decision after extensive discussions with federal, state & local officials and in recognition of the need to address the spread of the virus.
“The health & safety of our shoppers, retailers & employees is of paramount importance and we are taking this step to help reduce the spread of Covid-19 in our communities,” he said.
The company’s malls include dining, entertainment & mixed-use destinations. It also owns 28 properties in Canada, Asia & Europe.
