Grant Unsworth quit NZ Guardian Trust Funds Management after four years as property investment manager at the beginning of November to form his own company, Unsworth Properties Ltd, will still have one GT-related role for a while but has big plans to take on an advisory role in acquisitions & disposals for new clients next year. With experience at AMP before going overseas and four years at Schroeder Properties in London before his time at Guardian Trust, Mr Unsworth is looking at new entrants to the Auckland region and at institutions. “I’ve also always been interested in setting up another property fund, a unit trust. I do think there’s potential for that,” he said.
Lawyer Eugene St John has abandoned his attempt on behalf of Dempsey & Wood Civil Contractors Ltd to overturn the appointment of partners at Meltzer Mason Heath as liquidators of Red Hill Homes Ltd on the resolution of shareholders. Mr St John had been seeking a court-ordered appointment instead.

Application by Phil Waterhouse Ltd (Carol Waterhouse) to wind up Mainsflow Properties Ltd (Mark Wall) was adjourned to 10am on Thursday 20 December to allow a liquidator’s consent to be filed, and then to proceed to liquidation.
Centra Forklifts Ltd (Allan Wadams & Robert Boniface) had its application to liquidate Karaka Cable & Drainage Ltd (Ian & Christine Phillips) adjourned to 10am on Thursday 20 December, but only after Master Faire was told Mr Phillips was in hospital. The court master said parties couldn’t ignore statutory demands then expect a series of adjournments in court while they sorted matters out. He was told the debt had been due since February, the statutory demand was served in July, and the applicant had offered to have the money paid to an independent lawyer if it was disputed.
Spencer Rd Developments Ltd (Douglas Hoskins & Albertus Voskuilen, Birkdale) settled with CSR Building Materials NZ Ltd to avoid liquidation on 1 November, but faced a new application filed by LD Carr on 25 October. That application was withdrawn today.
Proam Tables & Accessories Ltd (Alan Robertson, Henderson, who also formed Proam Holdings Ltd in February) was wound up on the application of Westpac Bank. John Cregten & Steve Tietjens were appointed liquidators.
Ultimate Motors Ltd (Graeme Martin & Gregory Main) was wound up on the application of Sylvia Park Business Centre Ltd (Kiwi Income Property Trust), with the Official Assignee appointed liquidator.
New Lynn Ltd (Symon Peters of the City Wise group) was wound up on the application of City Sales Ltd (Martin Dunn). Judith Fatupaito & Richard Agnew (PricewaterhouseCoopers) were appointed liquidators.
Inland Revenue had Australasian Distributors Ltd (Catherine Panettiere & Craig Mudgway) ordered into liquidation, with Steve Lawrence & Brendon Gibson (Ferrier Hodgson) appointed liquidators. The Companies Office online register shows the company was struck off the register on 22 September.
Inland Revenue had Jeff Andrews Decorators Ltd (Jeff Andrews, Glenfield) wound up, with the Official Assignee appointed liquidator.
Inland Revenue withdrew its application to wind up MF & DA Coombes Rest Home Ltd (Mervyn Coombes, also a director of Eden Holdings Ltd, Eden Electroplaters Ltd & Agencies 2001 Ltd) after the demand was settled. Lawyer Chris La Hatte said a number of other companies with similar ownership would appear on the liquidation list next week, but had also settled. The total tax bill was about $200,000.
The application of Colin Mackenzie Plastering Ltd (Colin & Andrea Mackenzie, Milford) to wind up Hartner Trustee Ltd (Wayne & Gaile Hartner, of the collapsed Hartner construction group) was adjourned to 10.45am on Thursday 7 March 2002 to comfirm a two-day court fixture. The application was filed in court on 27 June.
Calypso Electra Industries Ltd (Bruce Fowler & Stephen Cotter) was wound up on the application of Calypso Sheetmetals Ltd (Ken & Linda King), with Steve Lawrence & Brendon Gibson (Ferrier Hodgson) appointed liquidators.
Neville D Rope Builders Ltd (Neville & Teresa Rope) was placed in liquidation on Monday by its shareholders, who appointed Jeff Meltzer & Karen Mason (Meltzer Mason Heath) as liquidators. The company faced a winding-up application in court today, which was struck out. Mr Rope is also director of Orakei Holdings Ltd.
Inland Revenue’s application to liquidate Tokaanu Hotel (1999) Ltd (Anthony & Pamela Plunkett) was filed in September but not advertised, because the taxman believed “advertising would destroy any hope of the defendant selling the business,” the department’s courtroom lawyer said in November. Despite criticism from Master Faire for improper use of the companies court, another adjournment was given until today. This time, the application to liquidate was withdrawn.
