The independent panel on the Auckland unitary plan will hold a workshop on retirement village zoning after all participants in mediation on it agreed the council proposal should be replaced.
In a minute issued on Friday, panel chair Judge David Kirkpatrick that, following the mediation on 25-26 May, all parties present agreed that the removal or replacement of the special purpose retirement village zone, as proposed by the council, was appropriate provided specific retirement village provisions were incorporated into the residential & business zones, and/or a retirement village Auckland-wide precinct.
On this basis, the hearing day set for 20 July will be replaced by a workshop, where all interested parties can participate to determine an acceptable package of precinct/zoning provisions to replace the special purpose retirement village zone.
These provisions will then be presented at subsequent mediations and hearings for the residential & business zone topics, as well as the precinct topic. Submitters on that special purpose zone will be able to participate, instead, on the residential, business & precinct zones.
