Prime Minister Helen Clark officially opened AMP Henderson Global Investors’ $185 million Botany town centre today.
She’d already been there a fortnight ago, to present Manukau City’s business of the year award to the Cock & Bull pub and brewing company, and confessed that cranking out beer from an old-style pump “was a skill I have not yet got.”
Botany, on a 17.6ha greenfields site at the intersection of Ti Rakau and Te Irirangi Drives between Manukau City Centre, Howick and Pakuranga, was bought by AMP in July 1998 and developed over two years, after considerable consultation and design work.
When the Mainzeal construction team handed the site over three months ago, 90 of the 131 specialty stores were occupied. Centre manager Gale Wieland said today the centre was fully leased.
