The net inflow of migrants jumped over the 60,000/year mark in August, taking the total to 116,600 in 3 years.
That followed a net outflow of just over 4000 in the August 2014 year and a net inflow of just over 65,000 in the preceding 7 years.
The net inflow this August was up 350 on a year earlier to 5346.
The immigrant total for the year rose by 14,000 to 117,866 while emigrant numbers continued to decline, down 2800 to 57,576.
For the month, both immigrant & emigrant numbers rose – immigrants by 736 to 9942, emigrants by 83 to 4596.
Migrants coming to Auckland rose by 6685 for the year to 49,553, while exits declined by 1200 to 21,691.
Arrivals from Australia continued to rise, up almost 1900 to 24,480, while exits fell by 4000 to 25,009 for a net outflow of 529 down from 27,250 2 years earlier.
The net inflow from India has jumped by 4250 in the August year to 12,676 – three-quarters on student visas – while the net inflow from China rose by 1650 to 8435, and the flow from the Philippines rose by 1230 to 4543. The net inflow from the UK fell by 1600 for the year to 3791.
