The net inflow of migrants was only slightly higher this August than last, up from 5346 to 5450, but that took the annual tally to a record 69,119 for the year, 29 more than the previous record set in June.
The trans-Tasman flow was again a net inward – 252 for the month (243 a year ago), 1759 for the year (a net outflow of 529 the previous year).
The net inflow from China was down for the month, 760 (841), up for the year, 10,029 (8435). From India, the net inflow was also down for the month, 516 (1198), and down for the year, 10,631 (12,676). From the Philippines, the net inflow was down for the month, 494 (513), up for the year, 4907 (4543). From the UK, both month & year were up, 425 (221) & 4588 (3791).
The biggest change was in the net inflow from South Africa, more than double for the month to 380 (187), and nearly double for the year, 3415 (1836).
For Auckland, the figures continue upward, arrivals of 4430 (4278) for the month, 53,365 (49,553) for the year; departures of 1719 (1803) for the month, 21,178 (21,691) for the year. That took the net inflow to 2711 (2475) for the month, 32,187 (27,862) for the year.
The national population clock hit 4,716,864 today, up by 200,000 in 2 years. The net migrant inflow to Auckland has contributed 60,000 to that increase, ignoring natural growth & internal migration.
