The Ministry of Business, Innovation & Employment (MBIE) has decided to update the building code annually from next year.
The ministry’s Building Performance Team said there would be only 2 dates to remember: the first Monday in April for the start of consultation, and the first Thursday in November for publication of changes.
Changes will come into effect the following November, allowing for a minimum transition of 12 months, so existing projects can be completed & changes incorporated in new projects.
The 2021 dates:
Monday 6 April, consultation opens
Thursday 4 November, changes published
Changes will take effect in November 2022.
In line with the November 2019 building code update, the B1/AS1 requirements for building on liquefaction-prone soil will come into force on 28 November 2021.
