The Green Building Council has awarded a 5 Green Star industrial built v3 rating to Argosy Property Ltd’s $29.5 million Mighty Ape warehouse in the Highgate Business Park, perched above State Highway 1 at Silverdale.
It’s only the third 5-star built rating for an industrial building.
Argosy chief executive Peter Mence said yesterday the rating endorsed the quality of the company’s buildings & its focus on greening the portfolio: “We initially targeted a 4-star rating but, by employing some creative thinking in our approach to design & build, we obtained the additional credits to allow us to get to 5 stars. I’m really pleased for the Argosy team, our investors and especially our tenant. Without Mighty Ape’s commitment to the proven benefits of green buildings, none of this would be possible.”
Argosy switched $100 million of bank debt into 7-year green bonds in March after it stated its intention to refinance bank debt that supports “green assets” – office, industrial or retail buildings, including upgrades, that meet certain criteria the company has established in its geen bond framework.
Mighty Ape general manager Alastair Burns commented: “Operating a facility built to this standard illustrates our commitment to aligning ourselves with the sustainability goals of our customers. We are humbled by the recognition of this commitment and proud to be the third company to operate a facility of this standard in New Zealand.
“This award is just the beginning for us. We will continue to develop new sustainable business practices, with the goal of protecting our country & its environment for generations to come.”
Green Building Council chief executive Andrew Eagles said: “This is great collaboration between Argosy & Mighty Ape. All of New Zealand’s homes & buildings need to be significantly lower carbon-emitting & sustainable. Leadership like this helps show the sector & others what is possible. Exemplary work here to achieve a 5 green star. This is the future.”
