Australian company Logos Property Pty Ltd has begun the earthworks for a $100 million purpose-built meat processing facility at its new Wiri Logistics Estate in South Auckland.
It’s the first development on a 10ha site fronting Roscommon Rd & Wiri Station Rd which Logos bought from Fletcher Building Ltd last July, and it’s Logos’s first venture into New Zealand.
Watts & Hughes Ltd is building the facility for Hilton Foods NZ Ltd, a subsidiary of UK company Hilton Food Group PLC, which will supply exclusively to Countdown’s North Island supermarkets from mid-2020.
The site has direct access to the South Western Motorway and is a neighbour of Ports of Auckland Ltd’s Conlinx inland port.
Hilton has committed to a 25-year pre-lease on the 15,700m² facility, its first investment in New Zealand, and will invest up to $50 million for plant & equipment.
Logos has almost completed a 45,000m² purpose-built food processing & distribution facility for Hilton at its Heathwood logistics estate in Brisbane.
The earthworks team was ahead of the formalities for the project-starting sod-turning, with 2 large mounds of dirt gathered behind and substantial work already completed to level the site – much of that coming from the Waterview Tunnel excavation.
But Logos was plainly moving forward, gathering an army of commercial real estate agents as the sod-turning ended, to promote development opportunities on a total 24ha of land in the new logistics estate.
- I’ll have more detail on this story, including links, over the weekend.
