The Government began “market sounding” on Monday for its proposed transfer of 1510 Housing NZ properties & tenancies to registered community housing providers.
1140 of the houses are in Tauranga and 370 in Invercargill. The “market sounding” will run until Friday 25 September.
The Government is seeking feedback from potential market participants on their level of interest in the transaction and whether the proposed commercial terms will deliver the outcomes the Government is seeking. Once this phase is complete, ministers will decide whether to proceed to expressions of interest.
Consultation with iwi confirmed Ngati Ranginui has right of first refusal on 115 properties in the Tauranga proposed transaction area and Ngai Tahu has 3 in Invercargill. Those properties will be excluded from the open & competitive commercial process.
