Update Friday 20 March 2020
The Property Council decided on Wednesday to postpone its residential development summit scheduled for next Wednesday in Auckland. It’s been postponed until Thursday 27 August.
New this week:
- There’s a spread of both commercial & residential auctions, so some new agency listings in the auctions category below
- Submissions open on a couple of new (one enlarged) development proposals
- And Auckland Council’s regulatory committee has an update (link below) on the state of consent appeals
- The latest apartment proposal for central Auckland is a 3-level building in Parnell, one apartment/floor, planned by Mike Warren. Mr Warren owns Lake Mahinapua Hotel Ltd (Hokitika), Rain Forest Hotel Ltd & Taupo Urban Sanctuary Ltd, and was the original owner of Kiwi Experience Ltd.
That fees protest
In last week’s diary I mentioned a protest over council fees by marinas owner Simon Herbert (Empire Capital Ltd). The hearing was held in the old Town Hall council chamber – where the lighting is permanently gloomy and the microphones have long plotted, successfully, to prevent anyone from understanding anything said – even when you’re close enough to touch the person speaking.
My impression was that hearing panel chair David Hill wanted to know from Empire’s planning consultant, Craig Shearer, “what were the reasonable issues the council needed to determine”. Mr Hill tried 3 times but didn’t get a straightforward answer from Mr Shearer that looked like satisfying him.
There was just a hint that extra cost might have resulted following political lobbying over marina uses.
It was therefore a hearing where, if there was unreasonable charging by the council, it wasn’t adequately exposed. No decision on the spot, but it shouldn’t take long to come out.
The diary is updated weekly and lists auctions, council meetings & agendas, hearings & submissions, economic release dates, events, Parliament order paper items and securities.
All Auckland Council agendas can be reached via http://infocouncil.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/. The council livestreams (and archives) Town Hall meetings and some other meetings. You can check those at http://councillive.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/.
