The Whau local board is proposing approval on Wednesday for key components of the project vision for a town square fronting Great North Rd in Avondale, a new laneway & a new community facility.
The local board decided last December to locate the new multipurpose community facility at 1951-1987 Great North Rd, a decision made public on 27 February.
$21 million was allocated for the new facility in the council’s 2018-28 long-term plan.
It will be delivered in partnership with council company Panuku Development Auckland.
Council service & asset planning specialist Nicola Terry says in her report for the board’s meeting on Wednesday: “The expected benefits of the new facility in the heart of Avondale Town Centre include urban renewal, improved service, enhanced community wellbeing & improved social connectedness. The facility will integrate library & community centre services.”
The council has begun the multi-stage process to form a design team, starting with expressions of interest on the Government Electronic Tenders Service (GETS). Concept design will start in late 2019 once the design team is contracted.
