Published 7 October 2007Auckland International Airport Ltd started construction of its $32 million northern runway with a blessing on Thursday.
The new runway, off Ihumatao Rd in Mangere, is north of & parallel to the existing runway. It will be developed in stages, eventually to be 2150m long. The 1200m stage 1 is expected to be operational early in 2011, in time for the Rugby World Cup. It will initially accommodate general aviation and small non-jet aircraft.
