79-year-old into custody for fraud
Eric Isadore Jaffe, 79, was sentenced to four years’ jail today on eight fraud charges involving $2.63 million.
He made no reparation of the $2.63 million taken from investors in the mid-90s.
Judge Graham Hubble sentenced Jaffe after three hours of closing submissions from Serious Fraud Office prosecutor Rhys Harrison QC and defence counsel Roy Ladd — who continued the unsuccessful trial line of blaming others — and reasons for the decision from the judge himself.
Mr Ladd sought a sentence of community service and said he’d been in touch with World Vision about that. But his client sat mostly unmoved in the dock, headphones on during the submissions, and with his suitcase packed for a custodial term.
